So I have been on a kick of writing I guess inspirational articles recently,so today’s article will be no different.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
So today I was watching the YouTube rewind. For those of you who don’t know it’s a video made every year staring some of the biggest YouTube celebrity’s each year. This got me thinking, a very dangerous thing to do.
I’ve been a consumer of “new media” for going on 11 years now, as the “computer nerd” of the family. I asked for a 56k modem for Christmas, and my parents being wonderful people that didn’t know of the monthly cost this would incur got it for me! I spent a lot of my earlier teens browsing and downloading short videos, gif’s, and reading page after page of stories. I remember learning about “Red vs Blue”, and downloading the files from their site at episode 3 of the series. I remember “Home Star” I’ve witnessed the rise and fall of Flash. I remember when YouTube was the go to site for the video of the Super Bowl Nipple slip.
This year’s rewind is the first where I really felt like I didn’t know a few of the performers at least tangentially. This was a bit of a gut check moment at first but then I realized it was a good thing.
The whole point of “New Media” is to expand the amount of programming available. There is a market for every niche, and that market should be served.
“That’s great Ike, what in the hell does this have to do with cars?” You ask, slightly annoyed.
Well I’ll get there! So Jalopnik and more so Oppositelock, are a great source for putting yourself out there. Which you should! I went through my YouTube subscriptions, and the vast majority of my subscriptions in the last 2 years are from suggestions from Jalopnik/Oppositelock. That’s such a pleasant thing, long gone are the times of hunting around the Internet on my lonesome looking for cool videos. I’m have a solid group of (I’m just gonna y’all) friends to help point me towards that stuff. Car meets in the real world are more often and more interesting because of all this. I really think (to bring this back to the earlier articles), that you should be making content. Mr Regular is a great example of understanding & using your limits to make great content. A camera, microphone, or keyboard is all you need now.
I was worried a few years back that YouTube, and the Internet as a whole may slowly become more like TV, with a ever increasing smaller number of shows and channels taking the majority viewership. I think that trend has kind of petered out. (Personal opinion). When the Internet started the world was flat, everyone was fighting to be seen and heard. Now there are mountains and valleys and sometimes it’s hard to climb out of them, yet you should take a ride on the shoulder of giants (Jalopnik, Oppositelock, YouTube), and get you a piece of the sky!
I’m glad I found this nice little corner of the Internet to roost in and work on my craft! You should use it to do it as well!
As new media slowly takes over and changes the way we take in media, I look forward to a day when I know no one in the YouTube rewind!

I really wish I wasn’t so tired by the time I get home from work. Keeps me from producing a lot of ideas I have for higher quality content. :/

Finding time is the hardest part for sure! I think I have about 8 hours a week of “alone time" I spend about 7:45 of it doing podcast stuff

Yeah, I need to just start making the time. I also need to invest in a decent camera body and some good lenses, although that equals out to about as much as I currently plan to spend on safety gear to go endurance racing next year. :P
I’ve also got a lot of content ideas for shirts, but again it’s just actually making the designs and putting them out there.

I thought this was going to be about how Volvo has been phoning it in since the mid 90’s.
